REGULAR FORWARD

Alfred was a local lad who was born in St Helens in July 1865. His father, Joseph, was a builder. In 1881 he was living with his parents at 128 College Street, St. Helens.

He made his debut for the Saints on the 22nd of January 1887 in an away fixture at Radcliffe. The Saints were defeated that day. Alfred played in the forwards and was highly regarded at the time. In total he played 43 matches for the first team. His final appearance was on the 26th of October 1889 when the Saints lost to a strong Widnes team at the ground of the ‘Chemicals’.

He married Elizabeth Ann Wilcock at Toxteth Park in the summer of 1890. Ann’s father, George was the publican at the Nags Head Inn on Eccleston Street, St. Helens. They had two children.

Alfred suffered an early death on the 20th of October 1906 at the age of 41. He was living at 41 Exeter Street at the time.
