MATCH REPORT : CROMPTON V ST. HELENS 22 OCTOBER 1877 These two Clubs met for the first time this season before a good assemblage. The match was keenly anticipated as both Clubs had made a splendid start to the new season. The Saints were missing Ted Foreman and William Holy from their side. The game was one of the best ever contested ion the Crompton ground, the result being an even draw with each side scoring two tries and two minors. For the Saints William Haselden, Edward Eastham, Joseph Halton, Tom Finney and Charles Anders played a grand game. Whilst for Crompton Howarth, Clough, Dreeson and Hill were equally prominent. |
