MATCH REPORT : ST HELENS V WALKDEN 8 OCTOBER 1887 In spite of the wretched weather a large crowd assembled. The game, in consequence of the wet state of the ground and ball, was uninteresting and play was restricted between the two 25’s. The result was a draw, St. Helens scoring a try and seven minors to Walkden a try and four minors. For the home team Joseph Halton, Charles Anders, Tom Finney, Jack Dearden, Richard Leatherbarrow and Ralph Twist were all conspicuous. For the visitors,Yates, Grundy and Harper played well. |
