MINER AT GALA DAY DEBUT

Ralph was a tough miner who played 19 matches as a forward for the Saints. His debut was an auspicious affair on the 10th of September 1887. The Saints faced great friend and rivals, Kendal Hornets, at Fleetwood. The seaside town was celebrating the opening of its promenade and library and invited the teams to play there as part of the celebrations. The game ended in a draw.

Ralph made his final appearance on the 17th of November 1888 in an away match at Leigh when the Saints suffered a defeat.

Ralph was a local lad born in early 1862 in St. Helens. He lived at 62 Park Road, Parr, St. Helens and worked as a coal miner. He suffered a very early death of the 31st of July 1890 at the age of just 28.
