 HERITAGE NO : Albert Dyson Heaton FULL BACK CONTRACTOR According to the 1881 Census Albert and his family lived on Dentons Green Lane. His father John had a paving business employing six men. Albert’s older brother, Bill, had played for the Saints since the early 1880s and most probably recruited Albert to the cause. Albert was a very capable full back who played for the first team over a two year period. He made his first team debut in the match against Kendal Hornets on the 10th of September, 1887. The match was played in Fleetwood to celebrate the opening of the promenade and library in the resort and the game ended in a draw before 2000 spectators. Albert went on to play another 15 matches for the Club, all at full back. The final outing was on the 26th of January 1889 when the Saints were defeated at home by a strong team from Radcliffe. Outside rugby Albert was destined to take over his father’s contracting business. He married Christina McLaughlin and they settled to live at 37 Dentons Green Lane and bring up 5 children. By the time Albert died on the 7th of April 1940 at the age of 74, he had only ever lived on Dentons Green Lane. |
