MATCH REPORT : ST. HELENS RECS V ST. HELENS 7 MARCH 1885 One thousand spectators assembled at the Queens Recreation Grounds last Saturday. A stubbornly contested game from the two rivals culminated in a win for St. Helens by two goals and a try to a goal and a try for the Recs. One goal for the Saints came from a dropped kick by Alec Borthwick from a pass by John Edwards. The other goal came from William Haselden as a result of a try by Joseph Halton. The unconverted try came from Tom Finney. The Recreation’s first try was obtained in a rather shady manner, but later on Fletcher of the Recs kicked a good goal from a try by Rankin. |
