 HERITAGE NO : Thomas Pennington VERSATILE Thomas was a versatile player for the Saints. He was comfortable playing in the pack of forwards or could perform well in the half backs. He made his debut against Wavertree on the 14th of February 1885. The match was won by the Saints and the game was played at Littler’s Field. He played an impressive 24 matches for the Saints. His last match was against Ossett on the 9th of April 1887. Unfortunately the Saints lost to the Yorkshire outfit. He was born in St. Helens in October 1864 and worked as a labourer in a chemical factory. His father was a fireman in a a colliery. Thomas lived at 40 Hope Street. He married Priscilla Gillian in on the 20th of September 1885 and the couple went on to have four children. In 1911 he had moved to live at 197 Berry Lane in Sutton Manor and started working at the local colliery as a miner. Some time later he moved to live in Newton le Willows. He died in Newton le Willows In October 1935 at the age of 71. |
