 HERITAGE NO : 18 Born in Warrington Rudge attended Cardinal Newman High School and first played rugby league for a local Warrington club before joining Thatto Heath Crusaders. While at Thatto Heath she was first selected for the England women`s national rugby league team in 2008, aged 16. At the end of the 2018 season Rudge was named captain of the England team for the test match against France and in 2019 was named as England captain for the World 9s tournament in Australia in October 2019 and also the two-match test series against Papua New Guinea in November 2019. In the first test match against Papua New Guinea on 9 November 2019 Rudge became the first England player to score four tries in a test match as England won 24–10. Rudge was one of the three nominees for the 2019 Telegraph Woman of Steel award but lost out to Leeds` Courtney Hill. Away from rugby Rudge is a PE teacher at a high school in St Helens. Emily was a powerful and aggressive backrower with a tremendous work rate. In the 2019 World Cup, despite coming off the bench against Papua New Guinea, she was top tackler. She was also named as England’s Best and Fairest player in the tournament. This player was absolute class and a deadly finisher close to the line. At the conclusion of the 2021 season Emily had crossed for 27 tries in just 38 matches. Emily was a member of the team which lifted the Challenge Cup in a resounding victory over York City Knights in June 2021. She scored one try which helped the Saints win the Cup for the first time. She was a regular player for the Club throughout their unbeaten, treble winning campaign of 2021. Emily played in the second row in the resounding finale to the 2021 campaign. The team powered to a great victory over the talented Leeds Rhinos side in October 2021. That win rounded off the season and completed an historic unbeaten treble winning year. Dave Dooley | |||||||
