MATCH REPORT

MATCH REPORT : Saints took a ninth minute lead at the Totally Wicked Stadium. Zoe Harris carried the ball to the line and she found a supporting Luci McColm who went through a gap before scoring in the corner. Amy Taylor was unable to convert, 4-0 Saints led. Eight minutes later, our lead was extended. Paige Travis made a big break down our right edge which lay the platform. The following play, Faye Gaskin had a run and was able to offload to Tara Jones, she then found Darcy Stott who forced her way over from close range. Taylor converted, 10-0. A third try came 21 minutes in. A good flowing move from right to left ended with Shona Hoyle putting McColm through a gap for her second try of the afternoon. Taylor converted, 16-0. That was the final score of the first period, as Saints went in 16-0 up in a tight tussle.

Ten minutes into the second half, Saints had try number four. Gaskin found Taylor, she then found Hoyle running a great line who went over from close range to increase the lead. Taylor missed the conversion attempt, 20-0. Hoyle had her second 63 minutes in. The forward ran onto the ball with great speed and broke through a tackler before fending off Michelle Davis and raced away to score from within her own half. Taylor added the two, 26-0. A few minutes later, Saints had their sixth. Eboni Partington got the ball and ran straight through some tired Wolves defenders before racing away to score underneath the sticks. Taylor again added the two, 32-0. There was still time for one final try. Saints had a scrum and moved it right, Harris found Hoyle who fended off a tackler before racing away for her hat-trick in the far corner. Taylor was unable to convert, but it meant very little, as Saints progressed to the last four of the Betfred Women’s Challenge Cup with a 36-0 victory over Warrington at the Totally Wicked Stadium.
