MATCH REPORT

MATCH REPORT : Saints worked the ball out left as Emily Rudge offloaded to Amy Hardcastle, she found Leah Burke on the wing who broke a tackle before strolling towards the sticks. Beth Stott converted, 6-0. Our second try came after we moved the ball downfield and on the last Zoe Harris found Rachael Woosey who then found Eboni Partington on the wing, she cut inside before touching down under pressure. Stott was unable to convert, 10-0. Another break down the left wing created our third try of the day, as Stott puts Hardcastle through a gap, she then broke another tackle before finding Rebecca Rotheram on her inside to score under the sticks. Stott converted, 16-0. Saints then kept the ball alive as Harris offloaded to Rotheram, she then found Woosey who broke a tackle before stretching over to score. Stott converted from the right touchline, 22-0. Burke then carried the ball right through the heart of the Warriors defence and sprinted away to score a great long range try. Stott converted, 28-0. Saints then moved the ball from right to left and Emily Rudge puts Hardcastle through a gap to score in the left corner. Stott was unable to convert, but it was still a comfortable 32-0 lead for the Saints at half-time!

Saints started the second half slowly but grabbed the opening try of the second 40 in the 54th minute. Partington with a big break downfield but was stopped a few metres short of the line. Off the back of it Saints moved the ball right and Jodie Cunningham broke through a tackle to score under the sticks. Stott converted, 38-0. Another break down the left edge followed, this time Hardcastle found Rudge on her inside to stroll over for try number eight of our afternoon. Stott converted, 44-0. Wigan then pressured the Saints line but Partington intercepted a cut-out pass and raced the length of the field for her second of the afternoon. Stott converted, 50-0. Our tenth of the game came in the 73rd minute. Saints worked the ball out to the left edge and Hardcastle powered her way through tackles before planting the ball down. Stott converted, 56-0. Partington was sent to the sin bin with a few minutes to go as for apparently pulling back Georgia Wilson who kicked on the first tackle from a scrum and chased. Wigan made the most of their extra player as a kick out wide was collected by Gabrielle Leigh who scored. Wilson missed the kick, 56-4. That was to be the final points of the game, as Saints beat rivals Wigan 56-4 at Robin Park Arena on Sunday afternoon but it was not enough to re-claim the League Leaders Shield following York City Knights’ 22-14 victory over Leeds Rhinos.
