MATCH REPORT


MATCH REPORT : Saints took the lead three minutes in. Dani McGifford broke down the left wing which laid the platform for Saints to move it right. Paige Travis offloaded to Faye Gaskin who found Rachael Woosey with a cut-out pass and she scored in the corner. Gaskin was unable to convert, 4-0 Saints led. Ten minutes in Saints had their second try. Amy Taylor kicked high and the visitors couldn’t deal with and Tara Jones won the race to it and scored to the left of the sticks. Gaskin added the extras, 10-0. Two minutes later, Jones had her second try. She picked the ball up from dummy half down the left edge, broke through a gap and rounded the fullback to score. Gaskin added another two points, 16-0. Five minutes later Saints had their fourth try. The Red V moved the ball through the hands and Jodie Cunningham dove over in the corner after breaking through a gap. Gaskin couldn’t convert, 20-0. Try number five came twenty minutes in. Zoe Harris broke down the left edge, she found Cunningham who found Dani McGifford who raced away to score under the sticks for her first try of the season. Gaskin converted, 26-0. McGifford grabbed her second eight minutes later. Saints’ #25 got the ball on the left wing, cut in and broke before using her speed to score a great individual try in front of the East Stand. Gaskin added two more points, 32-0. Six minutes before the break Saints had another. Gaskin put in a low kick which bounced off the post, Pip Birchall reacted quickest to score under the posts. Gaskin added the extras, which meant she has scored 500 points in a Saints shirt, 38-0. Saints grabbed their eighth and final try of the half two minutes before the break. Saints moved the ball left and Cunningham made the most of the extra numbers to score in the corner. Gaskin was unable to convert, 42-0 Saints led.
One minute into the second half Saints had another. Warrington made an error from the kick off. From the restart Erin McDonald was able to power her way over to score her first Saints try. Gaskin converted again, 48-0. Three minutes later we had another try. Saints had numbers down their right edge and moved the ball through the hands, Erin Stott finding Woosey who scored in the corner. Gaskin added two more points, 54-0. Gaskin then put Travis through a gap as she ran a great line to score under the sticks. Gaskin adding two more points, 60-0. Saints made it four tries in ten second half minutes as Cunningham broke through a gap and found McGifford on her outside to complete her hat-trick. Gaskin converted, 66-0. Three minutes later Saints grabbed another try. Gaskin’s high kick was allowed to bounce, Harris juggled but eventually caught it and scored try number thirteen of the afternoon. Gaskin added another two points, 72-0. Saints’ next try came on the hour-mark. Katie Mottershead picked the ball up from dummy half and burrowed her way over from close range. Gaskin converting again, 78-0. Saints’ fifteenth and final try came ten minutes before full time. Saints moved it right and Woosey cut inside from the wing to complete her hat-trick. Gaskin was unable to convert but it was still a big result for Matty Smith’s side, as they beat Warrington 82-0 at the Totally Wicked Stadium.
