MATCH REPORT

MATCH REPORT : Saints went ahead after just six minutes. An overlap was created on our left edge and Emily Rudge threw a dummy before stretching out to open the scoring. Amy Taylor’s conversion attempt hit the post, 4-0 Saints led. The lead was extended twelve minutes later. Returning skipper, Jodie Cunningham went on a run down the middle and broke some tackles to go over next to the sticks. Taylor converted, 10-0 we led. Warrington got back into it just before the break. An overlap down their left edge saw Georgia Sutherland shrug off some tacklers before planting the ball down in the corner. Michelle Davis was unable to convert, as Saints led the Wolves 10-4 at the break.

Saints were awarded a penalty try three minutes into the second half. Cunningham broke again and was held up inches short of the try-line. Off the back of it, Tara Jones found Emily Rudge, who found Leah Burke to score in the corner. A Warrington defender led with their knees, so the referee awarded an eight-point try for the hosts. Taylor missed the first kick but made no mistake with the second from in front of the sticks, 16-4 we led. The fourth Saints try came just before the hour mark. Warrington spilt the ball giving it to Saints in great field position and Zoe Harris found Luci McColm who scored in the corner. Taylor converted, 22-4 to the Saints. Another followed five minutes later. Cunningham saw Shona Hoyle running a great line and she broke through the Warrington defence and sprinted half the length of the field to score under the sticks. Taylor converted, 28-4. Try number six came after Taylor fed Cunningham close to the line, and she spotted a gap to go over for her second of the afternoon. Taylor converted, 34-4. The final try came eight minutes from time. This time an overlap on the right edge saw Faye Gaskin find Zoe Harris, she cut back inside and stretched out to score. Taylor was unable to convert, but Saints had already wrapped up the two points as they beat Warrington 38-4 at the Totally Wicked Stadium to top their Betfred Women’s Challenge Cup group.
