MATCH REPORT

MATCH REPORT : Paige Travis was sent to the sin bin for a dangerous tackle, the Valkyrie are awarded the ball. Good on both the defence and attack, the women are continuously trying to reach the line despite being held back by the Valkyries. A penalty is rewarded to saints, after some great attack Amy Taylor passes into Jodie Cunningham who sailed through the defence and landed the first try of the game, Amy Taylor bagged the conversion making the score, 6-0. York are on the attack but drop the ball, Saints then had the ball in hand and made their way up field, but fell just short of the try line. Faye Gaskin kicked on the fifth and was taken out in a late tackle by York, the ref awards a penalty, and the Saints opt to take the two with Taylor successful, 8-0. York made their way downfield with the ball, but a kick from Tara Jane Stanley went into touch on the full, giving the ball once again back to the Saints. Just two minutes into the second half and the Valkyrie quickly made their way to the try line, after being rewarded six again, which resulted in Lacey Owen securing York’s first try of the game. Tara Jane Stanley missed the conversion. 8-4 Saints led. After a high ball kick from Stanley which wasn’t dealt with by Saints, Olivia Gale barged her way over the line. Stanley adds the two, 8-10. Some nice defence from the Saints keeps the Valkyries from stepping over their territory again. An error from Saints resulted in York having possession 30 metres out from the line, although there was a hard effort from the ladies to keep them out, they weren’t successful leaving Stanley to go over the line, she converts her own try. 8-16. With 2 minutes to go, the York Valkyries are rewarded a penalty for a late hit and opt to take the 2. Stanley is successful in adding the two points for her team, 8-18.
