MATCH REPORT


MATCH REPORT : The Challenge Cup match against London Broncos saw Emily Rudge as captain and Caitlin Maylor making her debut. The match was delayed to kick off at 1310. After 4 minutes Salihi picked up a loose pass and streaked down the right. Beth threw out a lovely cut out pass to Hook who powered over for a try in the corner. Just three minutes later Hook collected a lovely pass from Erin Stott and ghosted in for her second touchdown. In the 11th minute Harris found Hoyle who overcome the Broncos’ full back to score. Faye Gaskin converted the try to give the Saints a 14 points to nil scoreline.

On the next set Mottershead scooted near the line and provided a perfect crash ball for Channy Crowl to storm over the stripe. Gaskin’s conversion gave the Saints a 20 points to nil scoreline. On the 20 minutes mark Phoebe Hook completed her hat trick following some fine centre work by Erin Stott. Faye Gaskin was unable to convert from the touchline. Four minutes later an attack down the left edge by Beth Salihi found Hardcastle handily placed to collect another try for the rampant Saints. Soon after, Caitlin Casey was held up just short of the tryline but Zoe Harris was on hand to spin round and collect the sventh try for the home team. Gaskin converted. The first half witnessed further tries from Hardcastle, Sutherland and Hoyle with Faye Gaskin converting each touchdown. The half time hooter signalled an unassailable 54 points to nil scoreline in favour of the Saints.

Five minutes into the second half Vicky Whitfield made a great break and from the play the ball Amy Hardcastle plunged over in the corner. Gaskin failed with the conversion. Soon after Hook benefited from the service of Erin Stott to collect an impressive fourth try in the the corner. Faye could not convert on that occasion. The lead of sixty points signalled the introduction of several substitues as the Saints continued tondominate the game. Vicky Whitfield was next on the scoresheet in the 57th minutes providing Faye Gskin with an easy conversion. Six minutes later the Saints capitalised on a failed touck kick by the Broncos and the ball was moved to Beri Salihi who utilised her pace to score. Gaskin obliged withe the conversion. The final try of the afternoon went to Shoana Hoyle who completed her hat trick following a timely pass from Zoe Harris.

The final score of 78 points to nil reflected the domination of the Saints and signalled a resolute determination to hang on to the Challenge Cup in 2025.
