MATCH REPORT : LANCASTER V ST. HELENS 28 FEBRUARY 1891 Owing to the late arrival of the Saints, the game was only of short duration. The match from Strat to finish was a complete scramble. Each team was short of players. Billy Cross was playing for Lancashire in Manchester. Billy was at half back in the side which defeated Cumberland. Tom Sudlow was injured and Tommy Foulkes was attending a family bereavement. The match ended in a draw despite Lancaster failing to register a point. Score: - St. Helens 7 minors Lancaster nil. NOTE Lancashire became the County Champions of England in the 1890/91 season. Billy Cross partnered Buff Berry of Tyldesley at half back for six of the matches. |
