 HERITAGE NO : Jimmy Unsworth GLASSWORKS JOINER Jimmy was a local lad who was born in St Helens on the 27th of April 1865. His father, Thomas, was a fitter. He lived most of his life in the Sutton district of St. Helens. Jimmy was a talented back who made his debut for the Str. Helens RFC first team on the 24th of November 1888 in a home fixture against Crompton. The Saints lost that match by 1 goal, 3 tries and 5 minors to just five moors for the home team. In total he played an impressive 26 matches for the Club . His last appearance was against Radcliffe on the 28th of March 1891. Jimmy was in the full back position as the Saints triumphed by 2 goals 4 tries and 7 minors to 2 goals and 4 minors for the visitors. He married Elizabeth Robinson in April 1911 and they went on not have two sons, Harry and Thomas. Jimmy was working as a joiner in a local glassworks. Jimmy died in St. Helens in January 1947 at the age of 81. |
