MATCH REPORT : KENDAL HORNETS V ST. HELENS 12 NOVEMBER 1887.

The two teams met before a good number of spectators. The St. Helens Club were only indifferently represented as seven players were absent as a result of injuries received in their previous match against local rivals, St. Helens Recreation. Inn the first half the play was not so one-sided.

In the second half the Saints emerged with only 13 players, two men receiving injuries in the first half. The remaining players were no match for the Hornets who eventually won an entertaining game by 1 goal, 5 tries and 2 minors to St. Helens nothing. For Kendal Hornets Jack Armstrong secured three tries and there was one each for Walker, Battersby and Parsons. All the Kendal tries were made from passes from their half backs Buff Berry and Billy Cross. Allen had a safe game at full back and centre Walker had a capital game. For St. Helens Hatton and Morris distinguished themselves and Dearden, Leatherbarrow, Holt and McLaughlin played well.
