 HERITAGE NO : Fred Liptrot HALF BACK GARDENER Fred was a local lad who was born in St Helens in October 1867. In 1891 he was living with his widowed mother, Sarah Ann, at 147 Argyle Street in St. Helens. His occupations described as a groom gardener. He made his debut for the Saints on the 19th of November 1887 against Mossley in an away fixture. The Saints went down to a defeat that day. Fred was a half back and he played a total of 13 matches for the Club. His last recorded match was on the 28th of March 1888 as part of a home victory over local friends and rivals Leigh. He married Annie Lea in January 1899 in St Helens and they progressed to have 3 children. In 1911, the family lived at 33 Fenton Street in the town and Fred was described as a jobbing gardener. He died in St. Helens in April 1938 at the age of 70. |
