MATCH NOTES : Sean Longs seventh-fifth minute try against Salford City Reds brought up a century of points for the scrum-half in Super League X, but more importantly also took him over 2000 points in his Saints career. Since making his debut in June 1997 against Cronulla Sharks, when he scored two goals, Long has averaged over 9 points a match, and he is now just four points short of overtaking Paul Loughlin (2004) in second place in the all-time points-scorers for Saints. His 120 tries, at a rate of better than one try every two matches, places him in twentieth place in Saints try-scoring charts, with Chris Joynt (121), Jimmy Flanagan (125), Tommy Martyn (127) and Frank Carlton (129) all within striking distance this season with at least twelve matches remaining. 755 goals also places Long in fifth in Saints all-time list, and he is now within one hundred of overtaking George Lewis in second place. |
