In just five seasons, Willie Talau won every honour in the English Super League and became one of Saints most decorated centre threequarter in the process. His list of major match achievements mirrors the terrific success of the club during the 'noughties,' with four Challenge Cup victories (2004, 2006, 2007 and 2008), a Grand final success (2006), a World Club Challenge triumph (2007), together with his part in winning four consecutive League Leaders Shields (2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008). He also played in two Grand final defeats in 2007 and 2008. All in all, a phenomenal record of success for the former Canterbury Bankstown Bulldog who arrived at Knowsley Road at the back end of the 2003 campaign. His debut was from the bench against Hull at the KC Stadium, when the home side ran riot with a 42-18 success. Willie played the last remaining matches of the campaign in the back row. He also has experience of stand-off half with the Bulldogs and New Zealand. It was clear that the team had better things on the horizon and 2004 saw the Saints lift the Challenge Cup against their Old Enemy, Wigan 32-16 in one of the great finals at the Millennium Stadium at Cardiff. Willie scored twice that day and bagan a sequence of scoring tries in major finals which became a bit of a trademark.

He was a tremendously durable footballer, who could provide his winger with try-scoring passes as well as having the power and skill to get himself on the scoresheet with regularity. His defence improved immeasurably in the first two seasons and few relished the task of opposing him. Willie would play almost 30 matches per season and his try-scoring was always in double figures ' a terrific example of sheer consistency at top level. He was also a real tough nut and opponents wound him up at their peril. He would ask questions later!

It is ironic that injury should blight his first season with his new club Salford in 2009. The St.Helens club and its supporters really did get value for money and he was sorely missed after leaving, although Anno Domini was gradually catching up with him.
