 HERITAGE NO : John Samuel Hardman CARTER John was a local lad who was born in Thatto Heath, St Helens in January 1867. In 1881 he was working as a general labourer and living with his grandparents in Rock Field Cottage, Eccleston. He was a forward who played 17 matches for the Saints. His debut was in the home victory over Bury on the 4th of January 1888. He played his final match at Dentons Green against Elland on the 8th of March 1890. St. Helens; that game ended in a draw. John married Runcorn girl Sarah Alice Bellfield on Boxing Day 1888 in Tuebrook, Liverpool. The couple elected to live in Liverpool in 1890 and that may have been a contributory factor curtailing his rugby days. The couple went on to have four children. In 1901 the family were living at 1 Gloucester Road, Liverpool and John was employed as a Carter. John died in Liverpool in October 1934 at the age of 66. |
