HERITAGE NO : Henry Pennington TWICE MARRIED Henry was a local lad who was born in St Helens on the 1st of May, 1863. His father, George, was a coal miner. In 1881 Henry was living with his parents at the Old Factory Yard in Parr and working as a collier. He married Phoebe Alice Saxon on the 20th of October 1883 and they had one daughter named Mary. Sadly Phoebe died in 1885. Henry made his debut for the Saints on Boxing Day 1885 against Widnes, but the Chemicals had the upper hand on that particular day. The centre three-quarter went on to play 5 matches for the first team and many more for the Reserves. His last match was against Warrington on the 23rd of April 1886 and ended up on a losing side in that game. He married again October 1887 to Dinah Gill and together they raised six children of their own. The couple lived firstly in Parr Stocks Road and then at 80 Kirkland Street. Henry continued to work in local coal mines. He died in St. Helens in January 1939 at the age of 75. |
