Obituary : Duggie GreenallThe legendary Duggie Greenall, one of Saints greatest-ever players, has passed away after a short illness at the age of 81. A local lad, who began his rugby career as one of Harry Cook's wartime A.T.C. cadets at Rivington Road School, Duggie was a brilliant centre threequarter - as hard as nails - and the master of the well-timed pass to the man outside him. He captained Saints at Wembley in 1952-53, although the team were defeated by Huddersfield. Later in that season, he became only the second Saints captain to lift the coveted League Championship trophy after the defeat of Halifax at Maine Road, Manchester. |
