MATCH REPORT : Saints had the best opportunity of the opening ten minutes. The Red V forced an error inside the Hull half and moved downfield. Daryl Clark tried to pinch one from dummy half on the last tackle, but was held up a metre short of the line. Hull’s best chance early on came as Harvey Barron claimed Jake Trueman’s high kick and offloaded inside, but the referee ruled forward pass as Hull headed for the try-line. 22 minutes in we had a trip to the video referee. From dummy half, Clark found Matty Lees from close range and he crashed over. Despite the on-field call of try, the Saints man was ruled to have been tackled short of the line and the try wasn’t awarded. With our next set we forced a goal-line dropout. Lewis Dodd’s low kick on the last tackle was chased well by Matt Whitley, but Logan Moy was able to get back and concede the repeat set. Saints did take the lead 27 minutes into the contest. Clark spotted a gap from dummy half and peaked through the line, finding an offload to Harry Robertson, who then found Dodd who strolled over under the sticks. Tommy Makinson converted, 0-6. Eight minutes later, Saints had another try. A repeat set on the Hull line allowed the Red V to shift it from left to right, Curtis Sironen found Makinson who was able to dot the ball down in the corner. He couldn’t add the extras from the right touchline, 0-10 Saints led. Those were the final points of a tight first half in East Yorkshire, 0-10 Saints led at the break against Hull FC. It took just three second half minutes for Saints to grab their third try of the game. Sironen broke a tackle and raced downfield, he found Dodd in support on his inside who raced away for his second of the day. Makinson converted, 0-16. Saints had another try shortly after. Clark picked the ball up from dummy half, threw a dummy broke a tackle and fell over the line from close range to increase our lead. Makinson added two more points, 0-22 Saints led. Midway through the second half, Hull were reduced to twelve men for ten minutes. James Bell was caught late by Brad Fash and that earned the Black and Whites man a yellow card. Saints took immediate advantage of their extra man. Robertson found Matt Whitley from dummy half and he span his way over from close range. Makinson converted, 0-28. Four minutes later, Saints grabbed their sixth try of the day. A Hull FC knock on deep inside their own half gave Saints great field position. A few tackles in, Jake Burns went for the line from dummy half and scored for his first Saints try. Makinson added two more points to his tally, 0-34. Saints’ seventh try came with nine minutes to go. The returning Morgan Knowles found Agnatius Paasi with a good pass, he broke through and rounded the fullback before scoring under the sticks. Makinson added the extras, 0-40. There was still time for another one. Harry Robertson did brilliantly to find an offload to Burns, who raced through the Hull defence to grab his second to the right of the sticks. Makinson added two more points, 0-46. With less than two minutes to go, we had a trip to the video referee. Jake Trueman’s kick was grounded by Jack Walker to give Hull FC a consolation try. The on-field verdict of try quickly agreed with. Jordan Lane converted, 6-46. The final 90 seconds saw no more points scored, as Saints returned to winning ways with a dominant 6-46 over Hull FC at the MKM Stadium. Thanks to the Saints Media Centre for their report. |
