MATCH REPORT


MATCH REPORT : Saints took an early second minute lead in West Yorkshire. The visitors kept the ball alive on the last tackle, opting to run it as they shifted it left. Rachael Woosey found Leah Burke, who dove over in the corner to open the scoring. Amy Taylor was unable to convert, 0-4 Saints led. Shortly after, Saints had their second try. This time the Red V shifted the ball right, Zoe Harris found Beri Salihi, she found Erin Stott who found Danielle McGifford and she broke a tackle before scoring in the corner. Taylor again was unable to convert, 0-8. Sixteen minutes in, the lead was further extended. Saints went left, Woosey was able to get an offload away to Burke who broke a tackle before diving over in the corner for her second try of the day. Taylor added the extras, 0-14. Burke made it a first half hat-trick 24 minutes in. Saints again went left, Taylor threw a great cut-out pass over the top to Burke who finished well in the corner. Taylor was unable to convert, 0-18. Four minutes later, she had a fourth try. Woosey applied pressure as the Giants threatened the Saints line and forced a knock on, Burke picked the loose ball up and raced the length of the field to score under the sticks. Taylor added the extras, 0-24. It was the Giants who grabbed the final points of the half, eight minutes before the break. Amelia Brown broke down the middle of Saints and won the foot race against Beri Salihi and Burke to score in the corner. Frankie Townend couldn’t convert, 4-24.

McGifford grabbed her second try of the afternoon nine minutes into the second half. Harris kicked high towards the right edge, McGifford grabbed the ball out of the air and dove over. Taylor converted, 4-30. Huddersfield had their second try in the 55th minute. Sam Hulme’s kick on the last tackle was allowed to bounce by Saints, Molly Iceton picking up the loose ball and scoring in the corner. Townend couldn’t add the extras, 8-30. Saints responded. Huddersfield made an error on their own line which Woosey recovered. Saints then moved it right, Harris finding Meg Williams who finished well under pressure down the right edge. Taylor converted, 8-36. The visitors grabbed the final points of the tie, three minutes from time. Saints got a repeat set on the Huddersfield line, moved it right and McGifford was able to burrow her way over to complete her hat-trick. Taylor was unable to convert, 8-40 it finished to the Saints in West Yorkshire.
