MATCH REPORT


MATCH REPORT : Saints took an early lead in Siddal, Paige Travis was fed the ball and she crashed over from close range. Beth Stott was unable to convert, 4-0 Saints led. That lead was doubled four minutes later, the ball was worked to our left edge and Leah Burke made a great catch from a low pass before cutting in off the wing past a Giants defender to score. Stott converted, 10-0. Burke had her second try within the opening twelve minutes. Saints once again worked the ball well to their left edge and Amy Hardcastle found Burke who went over for her second try of the evening. Stott was unable to convert, 14-0. A fourth try quickly followed as Hardcastle powered her way through the middle of the Giants pack to score under the sticks. Stot converted, 20-0. Saints’ fifth try came midway through the first half. The ball was worked from right to left and Hardcastle found Burke again and she sprinted away down the left wing to complete her hattrick. Stott converted, 26-0. Shona Hoyle then added her name to the scorers list after Zoe Harris’ pass put the forward through a gap in the Giants line. Stott converted, 32-0. The Giants were then forced into a dropout after being trapped in-goal, a couple of tackles from the restart Tara Jones went for one from dummy half and spun over to score to the right of the sticks. Stott converted, 38-0. There was still time for an eighth and final try of the half. The ball was worked out left again and Hardcastle bumped off some Giants tacklers before scoring for her second try of the game. Stott converted, as Saints were in control at the break leading 44-0.

The second half started as the first had ended. Saints worked the ball to their left edge and Hardcastle with another impressive fend off to score. Stott hit the post with the conversion, 48-0. Another quickly followed, Harris put a kick into the right corner on the last and Eboni Partington won the race to the loose ball to score. Stott missed the kick, 52-0. Hardcastle had her fourth try in the 46th minute. Stott found Hardcastle on the left edge once again and Hardcastle bumped off some tacklers to score. Stott missed, 56-0. The hosts then had a few sets of the Saints line but a loose pass found Rachael Woosey who raced 70 metres to score under the sticks, Stott converted, 62-0. Saints’ 13th try of the evening shortly followed. Stott once again putting Hardcastle through a gap to score her fifth try of the game! Stott converted, 68-0. Woosey had her second with ten minutes to go after Saints kept the ball alive on the Giants line and Jones found her open on the right edge. Stott converted, 74-0. Chantelle Crowl then added her name to the long list of try scorers as she powered over under the sticks from close range. Stott converted, 80-0. The SIXTEENTH and final Saints try came with two minutes to go as Victoria Whitfield crashed over from close range. Stott converted to give Saints a dominant 86-0 victory over Huddersfield at Siddal and keep alive their League Leaders Shield hopes for 2022!
