 HERITAGE NO : John Thomas Massey HAND SAWYER John hailed from Warrington and was a born in that town on the 31st of August, 1865. His father, Joseph, had the unusual occupation in working as a soap package maker. John lived in Powys Street in Warrington and worked as a hand Sawyer. He made his first team debut on the 29th of September 1889 in the home fixture against Bromley. John played centre that day and he made a winning start with his team. John played a total of 13 matches for the Saints and scored a solitary try in those games. His last outing was against Salford in the away fixture on the 30th of April 1891. This was the last fixture of that particular season and The Saints came away with a draw. We know that John married Maggie Noon in 1886 and the couple went on to raise 6 children. John stayed in Warrington for the rest of his life. He died in that town in April 1920 at the age of 53. |
