 HERITAGE NO : Samuel Kendrick WANDERING WINGER Samuel was born in Handbridge, Cheshire on the 22nd of January 1862. His father, William, was a stoker. He moved around Lancashire taking up different forms of employment and finally arrived in St. Helens where he lived at 26 Gerrards Lane, St. Helens. Whilst in the town he was working as a general labourer. His one and only recorded appearance for the first team was on the 28th of January 1882 when the St. Helens Rangers travelled to play Widnes Excelsior. Samuel played on the wing and ended up on the victorious team. Samuel married Charlotte Jones in Liverpool in February 1891. The couple went on to have 5 children. Later in the same decade Samuel returned to his native county and lived and worked in Mottram. He had taken up a job as an oil sheet maker for use on the railways. He died in Salford in October 1932 at the age of 70. |
