HERITAGE NO : Seddon William Jackson KNOWN AS SIDNEY Sidney was a local lad who was born in St Helens on the 1st of November 1860. He lived with his parents and siblings at 10 Liverpool Street, St. Helens. In 1881 and was working as a glass flattener. He played in the three-quarters and made his debut for the Saints on the 29th of October 188 against Widnes True Blues. Sidney ended up on the winning side that day. The following year Sidney played against the local outfit Sutton in a match which ended all tied up in a draw. His final two outings against Wigan and Lancaster ended in defeat in April 1888. Sidney was a long time servant for the Saints’ Reserves side. Sidney had various jobs around the glass factory including bottle sorting and making bottles. In 1897 he married Annie Leyland and they settled at 115 Peter Street. The couple went on to have 5 children. Sidney died in St. Helens in March 1939 aged 78 and was buried in St. Helens Cemetery on April the fourth that year. |
