---|
HERITAGE NO : John Griffiths LONG LIVING MINE WORKER John was born on the 4th of January 1862 in St Helens. His father, also named John, was a labourer. In 1881 he was living with his parents at 9 Ashcroft Street, Parr, St. Helens. His only appearance for the Saints was on the 29th of October 1881. He played in the forwards against Widnes True Blues. The match was played at Littler’s Field in Dentons Green and the Saints emerged as winners. Our records are somewhat limited because of the paucity of results and team sheets from that period. His number of appearances was likely to be higher. He was also likely to have played for the Second team as well. He married Mary and they subsequently had three children. In 1891 he was working as a life insurance agnate and living at 1 Campbell Street in St. Helens. At some point in the next decade the family made a bold move an d relocated to live at 46 Elliot Street in Tyldesley. John was working as a coal miner in a local pit. His occupation was later better defined as a colliery fireman. In 1939 John was recorded as a widower living at Bee Fold Farm in Atherton. He died in January 1955 at the grand old age of 93. His death was registered in Leigh. |
