Biography of Samuel Robinson |
---|
HERITAGE NO : Samuel Robinson CRANK HALL BREWER Joseph was a local lad who was born in St Helens in 1860. His father, Joseph, was a brewer. He made his debut for St. Helens RFC on the 22nd of November 1879 against Birkenhead Wanderers. We have him recorded as playing in two matches but as we have incomplete records. It is highly probable, given his recorded activities over a considerable length of time, that Samuel featured in other games for the Saints. His last recorded match was on the 21st of January 1882 in an away victory for the St. Helens Rangers over Glodwick. In 1881 he was living in the salubrious Crank Hall and working in his father’s brewing business. He married Elizabeth Jane Loxton on the 9th of March 1886 and they went on to have a son named Harold. The family moved to live in a another swish residence in Huyton before settling at Edenhurst in Roby, Lancashire. Samuel was the managing director of a brewery and his wealth could be assessed by his house employing 5 servants to meet all the family’s requirements. He died in April April 1930 at the age of 70 and his death was registered in Prescot. |
