 HERITAGE NO : John Michael SURGEON John worked in St. Helens as a surgeon in the 1870s. There are many instances in court proceedings when he was called to provide professional evidence for prosecution purposes in Petitions Courts. That said we are struggling to nail down any person details for John. His profession would have led to the ‘Originals’ social circle and on to the rugby field. He played two matches for the Saints in 1877 but could have been involved in more games as our records are somewhat incomplete from those years. John made his debut against for the ‘Originals’ on the 3rd of November1877 against the Walton Flamingoes. John ended the match on the losing side. He was selected for St.Helens RFC in the following month on 1st of December 1877 in an away fixture against Fairfield. The Saints suffered another defeat on that day. |
