Biography of Charles Twining |
---|
HERITAGE NO : Charles Edward Twining PARBOLD HALL TO OTAGO Charles was born in Bitteswell, Leicestershire in 1851. Ten years later his family had moved to take up residence in Parbold Hall, Parbold, Lancashire.. As a child Charles attended the Moisten School in Cheshire where he would have been a boarder. At some point in the 1870s Charles moved to live on Prescot Road in St Helens. He made his debut as a forward for the Originals on the 21st of October 1876 against Birkenhead Wanderers. The Saints managed to win that home fixture. His other recorded match was an away match against Fairfield on the 1st of December 1877. The Originals lost that particular game and Charles played in the three-quarter that day. Our records are somewhat limited because of the paucity of results and team sheets from that period. His number of appearances was likely to be higher. His brother Dr Frank Theed Twining also played at least one match for the Saints. Charles married Mary Ann Shaw in Farnworth, Lancashire on the 15th of December 1877. Within a year the couple had emigrated to start a new life in New Zealand. In 1907 they were living at Shag Point, Waitaki, Otago on the South Island of New Zealand. They had a son with the splendid name of Theed Parbold Twining. Charles died in Kairori, Dunedin the 16th of June 1926 at the age of 75. |
