 HERITAGE NO : 626 George Litherland by Alex Service Born in Wigan and signed from the Platt Lane junior club, George made his debut for the club in a match against Leeds at Headingley, where he was ANOther on the team sheet A tough second row forward, he made 18 appearances for the Saints, the last being against Leigh on 28th September 1946. The home team lost 7-11 and the forwards lined up that day as follows: Pilkington, Price, Bill Fishwick, Heaton, Litherland and Murtagh. In 1939 George was employed as a Little Piecer in a Mill. When the Census was taken that year he was in Bolton Royal Infirmary. Whether any injury was as a result or rugby or employment, we might never know. George died in Wigan in September 1977, aged 52.
