MATCH REPORT

MATCH REPORT : Saints opened the scoring six minutes in. After Castleford spilled a high kick, Saints had a repeat set on the Tigers line and a few tackles in Moses Mbye found Mark Percival with a cut out pass and he broke through a gap to open the scoring. Kyle Feldt added the extras, 6-0 Saints led early on. Ten minutes in, we had a trip to the video referee. Saints went down the left edge, Tristan Sailor put in a kick with the outside of his right foot which he chased, their was a touch which sent the ball airborne and Owen Dagnall pounced on the loose ball to score. The on-field verdict of try was agreed with, as Saints extended their early lead. Feldt couldn’t convert from the touchline, 10-0. A third quick try nearly followed. Saints again went left, Percival passed back inside to Sailor who scored but the referee ruled a forward pass. Saints did have a third try midway through the first half. Sailor peaked through a gap down the right edge and broke before throwing an audacious offload in a tackle to Feldt who scored in the corner. He turned his four points into six with the conversion, 16-0. The hosts had a fourth try just before the half-hour mark. Daryl Clark picked the ball up from the base of the scrum 30 metres out and broke through a gap before scoring to the right of the sticks. Feldt converted, 22-0. Just before the break we had a trip to the video referee. Castleford moved the ball right, and former Saint Josh Simm reached out under pressure to score in the corner. Despite the on-field verdict of try, the replays showed Saints have done well in defence to force him into touch prior to grounding the ball. There was still time for one more Saints try before the break though. Castleford kicked towards the Saints right edge, Harry Robertson plucked the ball out the air and raced 90 metres the other way to score. Feldt added the conversion. 28-0 Saints led at the break after a dominant opening 40 minutes, scoring five tries at the Totally Wicked Stadium.

Saints tried to add to the advantage early on in the second half. Jonny Lomax kicked high towards Feldt on the right edge but the ball was knocked on and the Tigers restarted on their 20. Castleford tried to open their tally for the night. A knock on by Saints deep inside our own half gave them a repeat set. A few tackles in, Daejarn Asi found Tom Amone running a strong line but a great tackle but George Delaney forced a knock on, with the try-line beckoning. The hosts had another great chance to add to the scoreline. A high kick by Moses Mbye was hit backwards by Feldt, Clark found Jake Wingfield who was held up over the line. A few tackles later, Saints went left and Curtis Sironen was held up over the line this time around after an aggressive run. Castleford lost Zac Cini for a HIA as a result of making the tackle. We had a trip to the video referee with 12 minutes to go. Saints worked the ball through the hands well down our left edge, Dagnall broke and headed infield before kicking towards the left edge, it was a footrace to the loose ball which he won to score his second try of the evening in the corner. Feldt converted from the touchline, 34-0. The Red V had another from the kick off. The hosts used up a few tackles before Agnatius Paasi sailed through a gap, he found Sailor in support on his inside and he scored under the post. Feldt added another two points, 40-0. With less than three minutes to go, the Red V had another chance. Good play once again set Dagnall away down the left wing, he found Lomax but Castleford got back to tackle him. Saints then moved the ball right, Robertson found Feldt but he was pushed into touch as he dove towards the corner.
