Biography of Richard Little |
---|
HERITAGE NO : Richard Little BIG BROTHER LITTLE Richard Henry Little was born in Belfast, Ireland and we believe that Richard’s family came to St.Helens in the 1880s, accompanied by his brothers Freddie and John Thomas. Freddie soon established himself as a blistering half back for the Saints. Richard made his debut against Liverpool on the 20th of April 1893. The Saints triumphed that day and Richard played in the forwards. NORTHERN UNION ERA In the Northern Union era Richard played 3 matches for the Saints between December 1896 and February 1897. His debut was on Boxing Day 1896 against Widnes when both teams thrashed out a scoreless draw, probably not the best Christmas present the crowd ever received. Little was a forceful forward for the Saints. In the 1901 Census he was living in Pocket Nook at the splendidly named Legs of Man public house. Richard married a widow Margaret Hunter and they proceeded to have four children. Like his brother Freddie he worked as a labourer in a glassworks. Richard died in April 1933 aged 59. His son, also called Richard, was on the books of the Saints in the 1930s but did not manage a first team appearance. |
