Biography of James Patrick |
---|
HERITAGE NO : James Patrick THATTO HEATH JOINER James was a local lad who was born in St Helens on the 27th of April 1873. In 1891 he was living with his mother and step-father at 28 Owen Street, Thatto Heath in St. Helens. At the time he was an apprentice joiner. He made his one and only appearance for the first team on the 9th of April 1892. James was on the wing in home match against the Liverpool outfit, Tuebrook. The Saints won by 24 points to nil thanks to tries from Bob Doherty (2). Peter Dale (2), Kenyon, Rogers and Joe Brownbill. Peter Dale kicked two goals and fellow Thatto Heather, Tommy Foulkes, kicked a valuable four point drop goal. Although this was his only first team game, James could well have been a regular winger in the Saints’ Reserves side. By 1911 he had married Margaret and the couple went on to have 3 children. The family lived at 61 Lugsmore Lane in the town. James survived two great wars and died in St. Helens in January 1961 at the age of 87. |
