Biography of Patrick Farrell

HERITAGE NO :
Patrick Farrell

WON AGAINST ASPULL

Patrick was a local lad who was born in St Helens on the 28th of March, 1867. His father, Roger, had a tough upbringing following his birth in Tipperary, Ireland. He is recorded as having to plead for assistance at a Dublin Poor House in the 1850s after suffering poor health. Roger had moved to St. Helens and was worked as a labourer.

In 1888 Patrick married Alice McClory and the couple had four children. The young couple set up home at 24 Merton Bank Road in St. Helens. Sadly Alice died in 1898.

Patrick played his only first team match for the Saints on the 7th of November 1891 at Knowsley Road. The opponents that day were top side Aspull and the visitors went on to record a victory by 4 points to nil. Patrick played on the wing. He was also likely to have played for the Second team as well in that era.

Patrick married for a second time to Margaret Wainwright in March 1899 and expanded his fatherhood to total seven children. He was living at 56 Hewitt Avenue, St. Helens in 1939 and was destined as a widower and a retired miner.

He died in St. helens in December 1944 at the age of 77.
