Biography of Richard Ryder |
---|
HERITAGE NO : Richard Ryder MINERAL WATER BOTTLER EARLY DEATH Richard was a local lad who was born in St Helens on the 6th of April 1867. His father, also named Robert, was a coal miner. As a boy he grew up in the Parr district of St. Helens and in 1891 he was living with his parents at 59 Ashcroft Street, Parr. At the time Richard was working as a Carter. Richard played in the pack of forwards and we believe that he played in the St. Helens Reserve team. He made his first team debut on the 27th of April 1889 in an away fixture against Kendal Town. The long journey was all worth the effort as the Saints emerged victors on the day. This is the only recorded first team appearance for Richard. He married Ellen Chesworth on Christmas Day 1891 and the couple went on to have two children. In 1901 Richard and Ellen were living at 66 Ashcroft Road in Parr, just across the road from his childhood home. He was working as a mineral water bottler. Richard died in Parr, St. Helens in September 1902 at the age of 34. |
