HERITAGE NO : William Forester Lyon LIFE OF WATER William was born in Eccleston, St. Helens in January 1867. His father, Elias, was a mineral water manufacturer employing 2 men and 4 boys. He married Ann Elizabeth nee Lyon on the 31st of August 1887 at St. George’s Church in Liverpool. The couple went on to raise two sons. Initially, William was an insurance agent. He made his debut for the Saints on the 26th of January 1889 in a home fixture against Radcliffe. William played on the wing but ended up on the losing side that day. He also played for the Reserves as well bit the Radcliffe game was his only first team appearance. In 1901, he had taken over the management of his father’s water business but it wasn’t long before William had bigger ideas. Later in the decade he decided to emigrate to Australia. The family settled in Wallsend, New South Wales where William ran a business as a manufacturing chemist. He died in Wallsend, NSW on the 14th of October 1936 at the age of 69. |
