 HERITAGE NO : KELTON CUMBRIAN SURNAME There were no records of anyone of playing age in the Lancashire region with this surname. Our strongest theory is that he was recruited from the Cumberland or Westmorland area in the early weeks of 1889. Initially he featured as a half back in the away fixture against Radcliffe on the 26th of January, 1889. The Saints lost that fixture as they did in his second appearance against Stockport two weeks later on February the 2nd. Kelton played in the forwards in that game. Kelton made his final appearance in the away fixture against Kendal Town on the 27th of April 1889. Perhaps the player was returning to his homeland, in any event he never played in the first team again. The match itself resulted in a victory for the Saints and a long journey for most of the team. |
