HERITAGE NO : Henry Gerard ELUSIVE CENTRE WITH RECS Henry was a local lad who was born in St. Helens on the 2nd of May, 1867. At 14, he lived with grandparents in the Telegraph Vaults in Salisbury Street and was working as an apprentice glassblower. A speedy and elusive centre for both Saints and St Helens Recs. He made most appearances for the latter. He made his Saints debut against Lancaster on the 7th of December 1888. He was married twice. His first wife Mary Rimmer died three years after their marriage in 1889. Subsequently he married Emmeline Bracken in 1896. Emmeline brought four sons of her own to the union to accompany the son of Henry and Mary, John. By 1901 the new couple had incorporated three more children to the fold. Henry worked as a labourer in the plate glass works. He later moved to 79, Cooper Street and joined the South Lancashire Regiment (20536) in that dark decade. Henry died in St Helens on the 21st of July 1917 at the age of 50. |
