HERITAGE NO : Joseph Hilton ONE MATCH WINGER Joseph was a local lad who was born in St Helens on the 22nd of May, 1867. His father, Edward, was a coal miner. In 1881 he was living with his parents at 5 Green Street in St. Helens. He played own the wing for one match against Barrow on the 24th of March 1888. Joseph ended up on the winning team that day. We believe that Joseph also played a good few matches for the St. Helens reserve team as well. In 1891 he was living with his sister, Elizabeth and her family at 46 Raglan Street right at the centre of the the Saints’ player production line. Joseph worked at local glassworks. Sadly he died at the young age of 32 in July 1900 and was buried with his parents in St. Helens Cemetery. |
