HERITAGE NO : Patrick Kirby IRISH FARM LABOURER Patrick was born in Castlebar, County Mayo, Ireland on the 4th of February, 1867. He found his way to Sutton, St Helens in the 1880s and gained employment as a farm labourer. In 1891 he was a boarder at 18 Carrie Street in Sutton. We have him recorded as playing just one match for the first team on the 17th of October 1887. The match was a home fixture against Werneth, a team from Oldham. Patrick played in the forwards that day but the Saints went down to a defeat at the Cricket Grounds in Dentons Green. Patrick was likely to have played for the Saints’ Second team. Patrick later moved to Liverpool where he met and married Rose Flannery in July 1909. He died in Liverpool in April 1947 at the age of 80. |
