HERITAGE NO : Frank White WINGER TO CLUB FINANCIAL SECRETARY Frank was born in St. Helens on the 26th of August 1864. His father’s the secretary of the London and Manchester Plate Glass Company which made the family very comfortably off. They lived at a salubrious residence, Peasley House, St. Helens. Frank worked as a bank cashier. According to records he made just one first team appearance on the 5th of December 1885 against the Liverpool Rifle Brigade. The match was played at the St. Helens Cricket Club in Dentons Green. Unfortunately, the winger was on the losing side that day. Frank probably played regularly for the Reserves team as well. In the early 1890s Frank became the Financial Secretary of St. Helens RFC. Obviously, given his occupation it was a great fit. At the turn of the century he also joined the army to fight the Boers in South Africa. On return he decided to move towns and in 1911 he was living in Higher Broughton near Salford but still working as a bank clerk. He later moved again to Prestwich in Lancashire where he remained until his death in April 1946 at the age of 81. |
