 HERITAGE NO : John Henry Kemmer BOLTON BASED The surname is a rare one without any direct links to St. Helens. We believe our man is John who was born in Bolton in May 1866. In 1881 he was living at 7 Emblem Street, Bolton with his mother Mary who was born in Germany. John played on the wing on the 16th of February 1884 in the away fixture against Southport Olympique. The Saints came away with a win that day. At some point he was recruited to the cause, possibly he had moved to St.Helens in the early 1880s to take up employment. We are aware that his mother married again and that John Henry adopted the surname Shaw. In 1901 he was still living in Emblem Street, Bolton and working as an iron turner. John died in Bolton in October 1935 at the age of 69. |
