Biography of Henry Johnson |
---|
HERITAGE NO : Henry Johnson IRISH GLASS BLOWER Henry was born in Ireland around 1865. His father George came to St. Helens in the early 1880s and gained employment as a coal miner. Henry is recorded as playing in a single match for St. Helens but because of the paucity of results and team sheets from that period, the number of appearances is likely to be higher. He was also likely to have played for the Second team as well. His debut on paper was on the 1st of December 1883 in a drawn game against local rivals, Sutton. The match was played at Littler’s Field in Dentons Green. He married the Irish born Elizabeth Johnson on the 28th of March 1891 and they lived at 30 Campbell Street, St. Helens. He suffered an early death in the summer of 1900 at the age of just 34. |
