HERITAGE NO : Charles Wright GROCER AND COMMERCIAL TRAVELLER Charles was a local lad who was born in St Helens on 9th of September 1860. As a child Charles lived with his mother and step-father. The family had a doubled fronted grocery at 31/33 Park Road, Parr, St. Helens in a densely populated area. Charles played as a half back. His only recorded first team match was on the 8th of April 1882 when the Saints lost to a St. Helens District side at Littler’s Field in Dentons Green. Our records are somewhat limited because of the paucity of results and team sheets from that period. His number of appearances was likely to be higher. He was also likely to have played for the Second team as well. He married Elizabeth Francis in Liverpool on the 7th of December 1882. The couple went on to raise a family contains 9 children. He ran the family grocery in Park Road, Parr for the next twenty years and lived at that property. By 1911 though he was registered as a commercial traveller and living with his family at 22 Brook Street, St. Helens. Charles died in St. Helens on the 23rd of May, 1919 at the age of 58. |
