Biography of John Forster (2) |
---|
HERITAGE NO : John Forster (2) GLASS MAKER Not to be confused with the “Original’ John Forster who became the Mayor of St. Helens, this John Joseph was a a local lad who was born in Upholland, Lancashire in 1858. His father, Edward, was a collier and the family lived at Chadwick Street in St. Helens in 1871. John married Margaret Hunter in 1878 and they went on to have two children. In 1881 the young family were settled at 2 Atherton Street, St. Helens. It was at this time that John played his debut match for the St. Helens Rangers. This game was played on the 8th of April and the opponents were the St Helens and District team comprising the best junior players in the town. Surprisingly, the District team were triumphant on this occasion. This is his only recorded match but because of the paucity of results and team sheets from that period, the number of appearances is likely to be higher. That day John played in the three-quarters. Alongside him in the backline was George Forster. As far as we can ascertain, the two were not related. |
