Biography of George Forster |
---|
HERITAGE NO : George Forster SALT OF THE EARTH George was born in Garston, Liverpool in February 1855. His father, William, was a salt worker in the local Saltworks. At some point George moved to reside at 155 Sutton Place, Sutton, St. Helens. He married Julia Ghilioni in Liverpool on the 30th of May 1883 and they had one daughter named Margaret. It was at this time that John played his debut match for the St. Helens Rangers. This game was played on the 8th of April and the opponents were the St Helens and District team comprising the best junior players in the town. Surprisingly, the District team were triumphant on this occasion. This is his only recorded match but because of the paucity of results and team sheets from that period, the number of appearances is likely to be higher. That day George played in the three-quarters. Alongside him in the backline was John Forster. As far as we can ascertain, the two were not related. George died in St. Helens on the 8th of March 1922 at the age of 67. |
